The Smashed Muffin Story

As long as she can remember, Katie has loved to bake. Since roughly 2013, she decided to put that passion to work and started operating as “Smashed Muffin.” Vending at farmers markets and pop up events, she offered a variety of conventional baked goods, some of which happened to be allergy friendly. She started to notice customers gravitating towards those items more and more and decided to educate herself on how to transform her baked goods to be safe for all to eat. Over the past decade or so, she earned (and continues to renew) her sanitation food handler’s license, participated in a week long “pastry camp” at the French Pastry School, obtained a certificate in plant-based nutrition and attended “Bread Camp” taught by a James Beard awarded baker. After a few years of appearing at farmers markets (all while working a “day job”), she decided to switch over to making custom orders sold direct to consumers. Most of the images in the photo gallery are thanks to customers (both repeat and singular) who decided to make someones day (or their own) better with a sweet treat.
